LINDA LOVELAND REID writes:
Painting is peace when it isn’t terrifying. I worked in watercolors for 8 years before switching to oil/acrylic. I loved to paint women, the inner spirit of mom, wife, lover, and nurturer. In late 2020, I launched into abstract work, a huge leap. I wasn’t confident that abstract art could manifest inside my literal mind. It did! And I am having a grand time!
I hadn’t planned to use so much color. Just cannot help it. Color is my fuel. A pallet knife full of ochre or cerulean blue and pow! – I am deeply satisfied as the paint mashes onto the canvas.
Painting is about passion. It is passion that guides us into necessary risks, driving us to make the appropriate sacrifices, to work, study, and get through those wrenching first attempts.
My hope for those who view my paintings is that each person will take their own meaning. Whatever it says to the viewer is what that painting was destined to accomplish.
The influences of my life are the same whether for painting, writing, teaching, directing theater, or mothering. I feed off the humanity in wonderful people.
